The USS Michael Murphy, a warship named after Patchogue's Lt. Michael Murphy, was commissioned Saturday morning in a ceremony held at Pier 88 in Manhattan.

The ship will be on public display on Monday from 1 p.m.-5 p.m. before it heads home to its home port in Hawaii.

Lt. Michael Murphy, of Patchogue, was a part of a four-member SEAL team, and was shot on June 29, 2005 while on duty. Murphy has been posthumously honored with the ship, numerous awards, a film and even a workout named after him.
While the ceremony was invite-only, Patch has heard that a number of readers managed to make it into the commissioning.
