Report: Village To Discuss Making Railroad Avenue One-Way

Suffolk County Police officials have asked the Village to consider the change due increased traffic from the recent opening of The Emporium, reports Newsday.

The Patchogue Village Board of Trustees will be discussing possibly making Railroad Avenue a one-way street for southbound traffic between Main and South streets as a result of a request from Suffolk County Police, reports Newsday.

According to the report, traffic has become an issue on the street due to the recent opening of The Emporium entertainment venue.

"It is our belief that restricting traffic on this roadway will not only enhance the safety of motorists and pedestrians, but will enhance the safety of the establishment's patrons and employees," police officials are reported as writing to the Village.

Patchogue Village Mayor Paul Pontieri is reported as agreeing to the idea of redirecting traffic, and is quoted as saying the solution would help reduce congestion at The Emporium and should move traffic along Main Street.

The hearing to discuss the change is scheduled for the Oct. 9 Village Board meeting at Patchogue Village Hall, 14 Baker Street at 7:30 p.m.
