A Long Island Rail Road train struck a car on the tracks in Patchogue on Tuesday afternoon.
The crash occurred around noon at the Rider Avenue crossing. The driver of the vehicle, reportedly a man in his 50s, was injured and taken Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center. His condition is unknown.
The train had left Babylon at 11:27 a.m. on its way to Speonk. It stopped at the Patchogue station at 11:57 a.m. right before the accident.

The impact of the crash sent the car into the side of Swezey Fuel Co. No one inside the business was hurt.
“It really shook everybody up,” a Swezey employee told Newsday.

There’s been no word on why the car was on the tracks.
LIRR service on the Montauk branch was suspended after the crash, but has now been restored. There are delays in both directions on the branch, however.
On Monday, a LIRR train struck a car in East Rockaway after the driver ignored warning signals and drove onto the tracks, according to MTA Police.
