Dr. Noori Al-Waili Appointed Head of Wound Care at NewYork-Presbyterian/Hudson Valley Hospital

Cortlandt Manor (March 11, 2015) — Dr. Noori Al-Waili has joined NewYork-Presbyterian/Hudson Valley Hospital as the new director of the Institute for Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine. He assumed his new role in February.

Prior to joining NewYork-Presbyterian/Hudson Valley, Dr. Al-Waili served as clinical research director in wound care and hyperbaric medicine for Life Support Technology Group of Tarrytown. Earlier in his career, he was the medical director at Dubai Specialized Medical Center, where he oversaw chronic wound and skin disease care, in addition to conducting clinical research in wound infection and healing. He is known for his research into the role of honey as a therapeutic agent in clinical wound management and its ability to eradicate wound infection and accelerate healing after surgery.

Dr. Al-Waili earned his medical degree from the College of Medicine, University of Baghdad, Iraq. He also holds a Ph.D. in nephrology and urological diseases from the University of Abertay Dundee, Dundee, UK. He completed his internship and a residency in the department of surgery at the Medical City Teaching Hospital in Baghdad. In the United States, he completed residencies in general surgery and internal medicine at North Shore University Hospital. He is board certified in nephrology and internal medicine and certified in wound management and hyperbaric medicine.

As director of the Institute for Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine at NewYork-Presbyterian/Hudson Valley, Dr. Al-Waili leads one of the top facilities of its kind in New York. The Institute is staffed by wound care specialists and features three hyperbaric chambers that provide a comfortable environment for patients as they heal. Recently, the leading authority in the nation on hyperbaric medicine, the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society, awarded a re-accreditation with distinction, its highest rating, to the Institute for Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine.
