Hiker Air-Lifted Off Anthony's Nose Sunday

A man having a heart attack was rescued by local emergency responders and the NYPD Aviation Unit.

A hiker having a heart attack on Anthony's Nose was rescued by local emergency responders and New York City's Police Aviation Unit on Sunday. The hiker was on the 900-foot high bluff across the Hudson River from Bear Mountain State Park that's a popular trail.

The NYPD said they received a call from Westchester County Fire Dispatch at 2:35 p.m. Sunday for mutual aid regarding a 59 year-old hiker having a cardiac emergency.

The Westchester Police Department's emergency helicopter was out of commission, according to news reports.

The NYPD Aviation Unit flew up the river to the scene and lowered a Tactical Medic down to his location, police said. The victim was tied and wrapped on a backboard. He was winched up and secured in the helicopter, then transported to Westchester County Medical Center.

He is expected to survive, NYPD said.
