New Yoga Studio Has Grand Opening In Peekskill
Family Dog Yoga Studio on N. Division Street will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate its grand opening with the City of Peekskill.

PEEKSKILL-CORTLANDT, NY - From Family Dog Yoga: City of Peekskill Mayor Andre Rainey and other elected officials will join Peekskill’s newest yoga studio owner Brigid Murray for a ribbon cutting ceremony and grand opening celebration at Family Dog Yoga studio on October 19. The celebration kicks off at 5 p.m. at the studio located at 12 N. Division Street in Peekskill.
Family Dog Yoga (FDY) offers all levels of yoga classes, workshops and Hip Hop Yoga, for which Murray has become locally famous. The airy and sunlit space located on the second floor of 12 N. Division creates the perfect serene environment for classes, which are offered mornings and evenings every day of the week.
The studio’s mission is to spread the message of inclusivity and create community.

“Yoga offers such a great mix of benefits for people who practice it,” Murray says. “I am really dedicated to making this a community space that welcomes and celebrates the diverse community we have here in Peekskill.”
Murray has hired a mix of instructors from different backgrounds in hopes to open up the healing benefits of yoga to a wider audience. Joining forces with local non-profit the Crossover Yoga Project and its founder, Elisha Simpson, Murray offers free yoga classes to local teenagers weekly. FDY also hosts a free monthly prenatal yoga class and a new moms group for women to receive support, discuss issues with feeding and other aspects of caring for a newborn with certified prenatal yoga instructor, doula and lactation counselor Shelly Wierman.

The studio’s name reflects the message that Murray hopes to spread with her classes and outreach.
“The family dog does not judge,” Murray explains. “And my goal is to make everyone feel comfortable and included. Like the family dog, we don’t judge. We are just here for the yoga and music and to fall over and get back up again.”
Murray plans to continue to work with the local community to offer a space that promotes non-judgement and inclusivity as she builds her business.
The ribbon cutting and grand opening celebration is on Friday, Oct. 19 at 5 p.m. at Family Dog Yoga, 12 N. Division Street, Peekskill. The event is public and open to all. For more information go to familydogyoga.com or follow them on Instagram @familydogyoga.
