PEEKSKILL, NY — Police said that a call about ICE activity at a local school was a case of mistaken identity.

At approximately 8:40 a.m. on Friday, the Peekskill Police Department responded to Oakside School after receiving a report about a person believed to be a federal immigration officer in the area.

Peekskill police officers and detectives investigated in coordination with school officials. The investigation determined that the person was not a federal immigration officer, but instead, a parent who had just dropped off a student at the school.

Detectives spoke with that parent and confirmed the report was the result of a mistaken identity, according to police.

"At no time was there a threat to students, staff, or the school community," the department said in a statement released on Friday. "The Peekskill Police Department thanks the Peekskill City School District for its cooperation. The safety and dignity of all members of the community remain the department’s top priority."
