The Sansotta Brothers Talk Sandwiches and More
You told us they have the best sandwiches in town (did you know they have the all too rare $1 cup of coffee too?)
Meet Danny Sansotta and Mike Sansotta -- or maybe you’ve met them before. Most likely, you saw them behind the counter at in Cortlandt Manor, the place readers say is the best place to get deli sandwiches in town.
The Sansotta brothers, who were born and raised in Long Island, have owned the place for almost eight years. Mike, who graduated culinary school and previously worked as a professional chef in Westchester, decided to enter the deli business in November, 2003 and he asked his brother to join him in the venture. “I learned on the fly, I guess you could say,” Danny recalls.
The brothers had big plans for their new place. “This store was previously labeled as an Italian deli but we took it to the next level,” Danny tells us. He explains that they decided to offer a butcher department, cold cuts by the pound, fresh pastas, a pastry case, specialty items, popular fresh mozzarella (“We take a lot of pride in our fresh mozzarella,” he says) and menu choices like steaks, burgers, and chicken.

But wait. We can’t forget about those popular deli sandwiches we mentioned.
Fun fact: The most-requested sandwich at Sansotta Brothers is the Italian Combo.(It is made with ham cappy, cappicola, salami, pepperoni, provolone, lettuce, tomato, Italian dressing, and spices.)

The store also serves several specialty sandwiches. A tasty example is their store-roasted beef sandwich with cheddar cheese, store-made cole slaw, lettuce and tomato and onion, and horseradish dressing.
“It is one of our best sandwiches,” Danny says.
He also recommends the fried eggplant sandwich with roasted peppers, fresh mozzarella, marinated artichoke hearts, lettuce and balsamic dressing.
“Everybody likes to make their own concoctions as well,” Danny says. “We make anything anybody wants.”
The brothers say this connection with their customers is makes it so rewarding to be business owners. “It’s definitely great having the interaction with so many different people,” Danny says. “On your day off, when you’re going about your business, that’s when you get to realize how many people you have a relationship with from being here at the store….Everywhere I go, I see somebody I know from the store, which is good.”
There's good reason the store is so popular these days. “Everything from breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert…you can take care of all that here,” Danny tells us, before remembering just one more thing. “We have the cheapest coffee in town,” he says. “You can still get a 16 ounce coffee for a dollar!”
