Woodside Elementary Welcomes Animal Friends for Educational Visit

On Friday students at Woodside Elementary School welcomed a few special visitors when FranLisa Krupa of The Nature of Things’ Environmental Outreach Program brought along some animal friends to introduce to the children.  The program, which is based out of North Salem, NY aims to familiarize students with different types of animals while encouraging them to make observations and ask questions.

While the program’s base is home to over 150 animals, Krupa chose six of their inhabitants for Woodside’s visit. Children had the opportunity to meet: “Marvin” the Giant Hissing Cockroach, “Sarah” the Ring Necked Dove, “Checkers” the Barred Tiger Salamander, “Pumpkin” the Corn Snake, “Spot” the Leopard Gecko, and “Pugsley” the Black Bear Hamster.

“The kids are all loving today,” Krupa said. “They’ve been very engaged and are asking good questions.”
