Mount Vernon Nursing School Recognized for High Pass Rates

Mount Vernon, NY – October 27, 2011 – The Dorothea Hopfer School of Nursing is proud to report its graduates’ success on the National Council Licensing Exam for Registered Nurses (NCLEXRN).  The 2011 – third quarter reporting shows Hopfer’s graduates had a pass rate of 95%.  This is higher than New York statewide results of 84.5% and the overall U.S. rate of 87.4%.  In addition, it is the highest average for all Associate and Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree programs in Bronx, Duchess, Rockland and Westchester Counties.

The NCLEXRN is a standardized examination that assesses a candidate’s knowledge and skills to perform safely and effectively in an entry-level position and is a requirement to practice nursing.  These NCLEXRN results highlight the quality of Hopfer’s associate degree program.  Hopfer School of Nursing provides clinical education that incorporates a high-tech, hands-on, hospital-based approach in a fast-paced healthcare system.  Articulation agreements with area, four-year programs provide Hopfer graduates the option of pursuing a BS in Nursing.  In addition, Hopfer has recently announced a unique partnership with Mercy College.  This innovative Associate Degree to BSN agreement offers graduating high school seniors the opportunity to attend Mercy for their freshman year, where they fulfill requirements in liberal arts and science.  Then, students spend their second and third year at Hopfer School of Nursing.  After graduation from Hopfer with an Associate Degree in Science (Nursing) and upon passing the National Exam for registered nurses, students return to Mercy for their senior year and a Bachelor in Science in Nursing degree.

The Dean of Hopfer School of Nursing, Joanna Scalabrini, commented, “Hopfer offers a long-tradition of preparing the next generation of registered nurses through sound educational and clinical training.  Our most recent National licensing exam scores show that Hopfer’s graduates are well prepared to take their place in today’s healthcare environment.”
