UPDATE: Elderly Woman Crashes Car Near Train Tracks Causing LIRR Delays
Trains on the Ronkonoma branch were delayed an average of 15 minutes.

BETHPAGE, NY - A one car crash that occurred close to the train tracks in Bethpage caused LIRR trains to be delayed an average of 15 minutes on Thursday morning, according to MTA officials.
Police responded to a call about an accident adjacent to the tracks at the Stewart Avenue grade crossing at about 7:50 a.m.
The car was being driven by an elderly woman with no passenger, according to the MTA. She moved her car in reverse, got confused, turned the wheel the wrong way and ended up near the tracks, according to the spokesperson.

According to officials, it doesn’t appear that the vehicle was close enough to be "fouling" the track, meaning close enough that an individual could be struck by a moving train or other on-track equipment.
No injuries were reported and no summonses were issued.
