NeuLion Reports Big Growth in Hockey Service

Plainview company provides live NHL games and news to digital subscribers.

 Plainview-based NeuLion, which delivers professional hockey on PCs, gaming consoles, mobile and other connected devices, is reporting a large jump in subscribers for its NHL GameCenter Live service.

The company said that new subscriptions jumped 31 percent and an 83 percent increase in renewals this season. More than 1,000 live hockey games and on-demand video news and highlights were streamed out by the serivce.

"Whether it's on a mobile, tablet, broadband or connected device, the NHL is exploiting digital technologies to shorten the distance between the League and our tech-savvy fans," said Perry Cooper, SVP of digital media for the NHL. "This season, in particular, has been an overwhelming success for us with the emergence of the League's global mobile footprint, and connected device strategy."

During its inaugural season on Apple, Android, BlackBerry and Nokia mobile devices, the NHL GameCenter(TM) application was installed more than 2 million times worldwide, the company reported. The NHL and the service includes products tailored for individual countries.

Along with mobile devices, the NHL and NeuLion also announced extensions for  Sony PlayStation3, Roku and Boxee.
