Remains Of Omer Neutra Return To Israel: Reports

American-Israeli soldier Omer Neutra was killed in the attacks on Oct. 7, 2023; after more than 2 years, his remains are returned: reports.

PLAINVIEW, NY — The body of Omer Neutra, an American-Israeli soldier and Plainview resident who was killed in the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas attacks, was returned to Israel on Sunday night, according to multiple reports.

The news was shared nationwide, as well as locally amongst sources, including Oyster Bay Supervisor Joseph Saladino, the BringOmerHome and AIPAC Instagram accounts, and Rep. Tom Suozzi.

"For years, the Neutra family lived in uncertainty, holding onto hope while enduring unimaginable pain," Saladino wrote on Instagram. "Their courage and resolve in fighting for what no parent should ever face has touched countless hearts worldwide."

Rabbi Joel Levenson of Midway Jewish Center in Syosset said Omer Neutra was an active community member, and it shows as Plainview honored Neutra's memory in multiple ways.

Plainview named a park after Captain Omer Neutra, located at Phipps Lane and Marilyn Boulevard.

Plainview also named a portion of the street near the Mid Island Y JCC in Plainview in his honor.

Levenson told Patch, before Omer Neutra's remains were returned, that everyone was holding their breaths on his return "so he can receive a dignified burial in a proper resting place..."
