Augmented Reality Sandbox is Open for Business at Briarcliff HS
Hands-on sandbox with 3D visualization apps to make landscapes comes alive: elevation color map, topographic contour lines & simulated water
Through planning and troubleshooting and creativity, the Augmented Reality Sandbox (ARS) is now up and running in Yelena Silverman’s science classroom! This unique scientific tool was funded by a generous grant from Briarcliff Manor Education Foundation (BMEF) written by Ms. Silverman, Briarcliff High School science teacher, and several of her (now former) Earth Science students: Aaron Chen, Jaclyn Summer Kaltner, Julia Keough, Rebecca Rubenstein, Joseph Dunckelman, Camron Fash, Spencer McCann, Jackson Gonseth, Kyle Johnson, and Erik Pereyra.
Ms. Silverman explained, “With the help of a carpenter and a tech expert, over winter break I was able to trouble shoot the last few issues and the ARS is now fully functional and ready to be used not only by my students, but by all BMS and BHS classes."
The first visitors to this new BHS science offering were Mr. Connolly's Briarcliff Middle School sixth grade Social Studies students who are studying ancient civilizations and the topography of their cities. Students were able to transfer their in-class study into a hands-on experiment by visiting the Earth Science classroom facilitated by a group of my current Earth Science students.
The pictures of this inaugural visit are here.

Ms. Silverman said, “I would like to extend an invitation to all of my colleagues to join us to try out the ARS and if the timing of their class works with mine, I can have some of my current Earth Science students run the lesson. I would also like to extend my gratitude to the BMEF and everyone else who played a role in making this possible.”
