Briarcliff High School to present Saturday, Sunday, Monday by Eduardo De Filippo, translated by Keith Waterhouse and Willis Hall, and presented by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc., a Concord Theatricals Company

Students from Briarcliff High School are preparing for a tasty performance of the comedy Saturday, Sunday, Monday, by Italian playwright Eduardo De Filippo, in an immersive new production for audiences of all ages. A familiar tale of food and family set in 1959, the play tells the story of the Priore family in Naples, as they prepare for a large family celebration.

With an act for each day in the title, the play begins on Saturday night as the family cooks a traditional ragu for the following day. The action continues on Sunday afternoon with all the members of the family sitting down to eat the meal, and then Monday morning when the traditional stresses and strains of family gatherings can be healed and resolved.

“It’s the perfect play for Thanksgiving time,” said director Ian Driver. “Not only can we all identify with the comic possibilities of a family gathering around holiday time, but this play also celebrates food and its place in family life.”

BHS students have been experimenting with ways to awaken the audience’s senses to the smells and tastes of traditional Italian food. To that end, the play will be presented in a small, studio-style space (about the size of a dining room, says Driver) with opportunities to create a “smell-a-round” for the audience’s enjoyment. A crazy comedy, with a cast of characters as familiar as your own family, Saturday, Sunday, Monday promises to be an evening of fun for all ages that will leave your mouth watering.

The production will run about 2 hours 15 minutes with 2 intermissions. Afterwards, Italian treats will be available for all ticket holders.

The performances will take place in the Frances G. Wills Auditorium at Briarcliff High School on Friday, November 15, at 7:30pm; Saturday, November 16, at 2:30pm & 7:30pm; Sunday, November 17, at 2:30pm All tickets are $15 online click here.
