Briarcliff Manor Man Arrested for Drug Possession

A minor traffic jam and accident on Saturday resulted in the arrest of a man suspected of carrying drugs, according to the .

A police officer on foot patrol on Pleasantville Road Saturday afternoon came across two vehicles causing a traffic jam in a municipal parking lot at approximately 1:15 p.m.

The officer reported the two cars corrected the situation when the police officer was seen, but caused a minor collision. One of the drivers, a female, said she did not wish to fill out an accident report.

When another driver was interviewed, the officer reported seeing a small, clear plastic bag in his right hand. When the man was asked to exit the vehicle, the bag—containing a blue powder substance—was dropped to the ground.

The officer arrested the man—a 20-year-old Briarcliff Manor resident—at the scene and transported him to police headquarters, where he was found to also have a suspended driver's license.

The man is charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree, a misdemeanor. He is also charged with operating a vehicle with a suspended driver's license.

The man was released on $100 bail and is tomorrow.

Police said the substance inside the clear bag has not yet been identified.
