Briarcliff Manor Police Blotter: $1,500 Phone Scam; Car Hit with Bat

The following is from the police department. Arrests do not indicate convictions.

Here's a look at some of the incidents investigated by the  from June 18 — 24, 2012.

Sunday, June 24

11:34 a.m. — A Larch Road resident reported sometime overnight, someone had struck his car with a bat, causing damage to the roof rack and passenger's side. Police filed a report of the criminal mischief.

Saturday, June 23

4:11 p.m. — Police stopped a vehicle on Route 9A and arrested the driver, a 35-year-old Yorktown man, and charged him with driving without a license and in a vehicle with a suspended registration. He was processed at headquarters and released on $100 bail. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

Friday, June 22

8:00 a.m. — A South State Road resident reported that sometime overnight, his mailbox had been twisted from its post and had gone missing.

7:35 a.m. — A Long Hill Road East resident reported his mailbox had been damaged sometime overnight. He stated he went to bed at approximately 11 p.m. and did not hear any noise.

6:43 a.m. — A Long Hill Road East resident reported her mailbox had been damaged sometime overnight.

Thursday, June 21

2:09 p.m. — A Hollowtree Road resident reported his mailbox had been damaged overnight.

7:53 a.m. — A Cherry Hill Court resident reported her mailbox had been knocked over sometime overnight.

7:51 a.m. — A Lodge Road resident reported her mailbox had been ripped from the ground overnight.

Wednesday, June 20

7:23 p.m. — An Apple Lane resident reported her mailbox had been struck and ripped off its post by an unknown person.

3:58 p.m. — A Briarcliff Manor resident reported receiving a statement from Bill Me Later for two purchases completed by an unknown person, including one at Hewlett-Packard. Police filed a report of the alleged identity theft.

1:04 p.m. — A Briarcliff Manor resident reported Bank of America and Capital One credit card applications had been made using his personal information He canceled both and police are investigating the alleged attempted identity thefts.

Tuesday, June 19

4:05 p.m. — A Briarcliff Manor woman came into police headquarters and reported she was scammed out of $1,500. She said someone called her and reported her grandson had been in an accident in Florida with friends and needed $3,000. The caller asked her not to call her grandson's parents and said his lawyer would call back in 10 minutes. The "lawyer" called and said her grandson actually only needed $1,500 that she could wire through Western Union at  to a person in London. Police contacted Stop & Shop and asked them to stop the transaction. were also notified of the incident. The woman was able to get her money back at the store.

10:44 a.m. — A North State Road doctor's office employee reported receiving harassing phone calls at the office where the caller continually hung up.

Monday, June 18

6:50 a.m. — Police and Briarcliff Manor Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded to the scene of a one-car accident on Scarborough Road near Sleepy Hollow Road. There, the driver—a Briarcliff Manor resident—reported she was driving east on the road when her front, passenger's side tire blew out, causing her to hit a rock wall. The wall and vehicle were both damaged. The woman suffered minor injuries and was taken to .
