Doherty Elevated to Sergeant Detective in Briarcliff
The board of trustees approved the four-year detective's promotion Wednesday.

Matthew Doherty of the has been promoted to sergeant detective from detective as of Thursday.
"I have a series of items on his various accomplishments," noted Village Manager Philip Zegarelli at Wednesday's board of trustees meeting. "Most of us know that he was detective since February of 2008 and is basically a one-person shop."
According to Zegarelli, the promotion will allow him to serve the village in more ways.

He could "perhaps expand detective work or if there was ever a need for sergeant supervision, he can swing either way...to meet the needs of the department," Zegarelli said.
The promotion carries an annual salary of $100,873, whch Zegarelli said "Is only approximately a $4,500 increase."

"I just want to congratulation Matt," said Mayor William Vescio. I think it's well-deserving of him and I'm sure he will do the village well in this position."
