Experts Caution of Enhanced Fire Conditions
A 'Red Flag' warning for Westchester and the surrounding area—Orange, Rockland and Putnam—is in effect until 8 p.m.

A statewide ban on burning is in effect until next month, but today's weather is cause for special concern, officials say.
A 'Red Flag' warning from the National Weather Service urges folks to exercise caution when it comes to potential outdoor ignitions until about 8 tonight, as conditions in southeast New York and northeast New Jersey will make it easy for flames to spread quickly.
"A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions are expected or occurring," the alert states. The agency issued a late last month. "A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity and dry fuels will create a significantly elevated fire growth potential."
