FAA Investigates Yorktown Plane Crash

Damage to the aircraft was substantial, according to officials.

The Federal Aviation Administration has begun its investigation into what at the IBM research facility in Yorktown.

"It's still in the early stages," FAA spokeswoman Holly Baker said of the probe.

The plane made a forced landing on Friday on its way to Norwood Memorial Airport, MA, according to local, county and federal officials. The pilot reported engine troubles at 4:21 p.m. and decided to divert to Westchester County Airport to land there. But about 15 minutes later the pilot had to make a forced landing on a grassy field on Route 134.

He and his passenger walked off with minor injuries. They were taken to the Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla with non-life threatening injuries—something police on the scene called a miracle.

Damage to the aircraft was substantial, Baker said. The plane, a 1996 private aviation craft is registered to Mark Ehrenzeller of Hopkinton, MA.
