Gas Line Punctured at Pleasantville Complex (Updated)

Residents were briefly evacuated from the building.

The and s responded to a call for a struck gas line at 173 Bedford Road this morning.

According to police, the department received a phone call notifying them of the incident at 10:21 a.m.

Police Officer Gilmartin stated an old gas line had been struck during construction at the residence, which is part of the Ledgerock Gardens complex.

According to Sergeant John Listwan, a private contractor was working in the building where the pipe was struck.

Gilmartin said residents were evacuated from the building as Con Edison was called to the scene. The building's superintendent turned off the gas line following the incident.

Sgt. Listwan said "about a dozen" of the building's residents had been temporarily displaced, but had been let back into the residence before 10:55 a.m.

Con Edison was able to correct the problem, Listwan added, noting there were no injuries or property damage reported to the police as a result of the burst pipe.
