Hearing On Law To Ban Marijuana Sales In Pleasantville
The village board is following the example of the school board.

PLEASANTVILLE, NY — The Board of Trustees of the Village of Pleasantville will hold a public hearing at 8 p.m. Monday to hear comments about a proposed local law prohibiting the retail sale of marijuana in the village.
Many Pleasantville residents are concerned about the state's initiative to legalize recreational marijuana. In January, the Pleasantville Board of Education approved a resolution that opposes retail marijuana sales and asked community members to advocate locally and at the state level. Their sample letter argues that "as evidenced by years of youth alcohol prevention data, we know that legalization of marijuana for 21-year-olds will make it all too available to their younger peers. "
The school trustees called on state lawmakers in general to, among other things, limit sales across the state to people 25 and older; prohibit the sale of edibles that could be marketed to children; and allow only state-run outlets.

The village board said Pleasantville's small size, particularly its business district, would make it impossible to locate marijuana retail stores away from children's walking routes and "child focused facilities."

So, the law would prohibit the retail distribution, sale or offer for consumption anywhere in Pleasantville.
Local Law Introductory No. 1 of 2019 would amend Chapter 185 Article I, Section 3, Subsection B and create Chapter 185, Article IX, Section 45 of the Code of the Village of Pleasantville
The meeting will be held at 80 Wheeler Ave.
