Updated: Hit and Run on Saw Mill Leads to Drug Arrest in Pleasantville

Update, Monday:

A Carmel man was arrested in Pleasantville Sunday night on felony DWI and drug charges after allegedly striking another vehicle on the Saw Mill River Parkway and then leaving the scene, according to Kieran O'Leary, public information officer of the Westchester County Department of Public Safety.

Sean Gillespie, 35, is charged with Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree and Possession of a Hypodermic Instrument.

He is also charged with Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Accident.

Gillespie faces a felony DWI charge as police reported he has had a DWI-related conviction within the last 10 years.

According to police reports, "The incident began at 8:22 p.m. on the northbound Saw Mill River Parkway in Hawthorne when Gillespie's 2010 Dodge pickup truck struck another vehicle, sending it off the road."

The driver of that vehicle was not injured.

Police received a call from a witness to the accident who followed the truck onto the Taconic State Parkway and then onto Route 117.

"Detective David Whitney of the county police was able to locate the Dodge pickup on Pleasantville Road in the village and made a traffic stop at 8:31 p.m.," according to O'Leary. "Gillespie failed a field sobriety test and was taken into custody. A small glassine bag containing heroin and a plastic bag with nine syringes was found in the car."

Gillespie was held in county police headquarters overnight, awaiting arraignment in .

Westchester County Police performed an arrest this evening at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Pleasantville Road in Pleasantville.

According to Sergeant Jeff Sewalk, the department was notified of a hit and run accident on the Saw Mill River Parkway by another driver who witnessed the incident.

After responding to the scene, police stopped a vehicle on Pleasantville Road and arrested the driver who is believed to have been involved in the accident.

"The [victim] is doing well," Sewalk stated. "He is very lucky."
