How safe is your child's school? Recent events, including last week's school shooting in Florida, have put student safety in the forefront, and one data compiler has revealed which Hudson Valley school districts rank highest in this category.

Niche.com's list of the Safest School Districts for 2018 was created using information from the U.S. Department of Education, the FBI, parent reviews and other data.

To compile the ranking, 50 percent was based on parent and student surveys on health and safety. Student absenteeism, suspensions and expulsions were also factored into the rankings, well as percentage of students referred to law enforcement and school-related arrests.

The Yorktown school district was listed as the safest district in the Hudson Valley, and the third safest school in New York State. The rankings named Orchard Park Central School District in West Seneca as the safest district in New York.

There were 16 Hudson Valley school districts that made Niche’s top 100 in New York.

  • No. 76 - Eastchester
  • No. 80 - Harrison
  • No. 83 - Arlington
  • No. 90 - Monroe-Woodbury
  • No. 99 - Lakeland
