New Courses Begin at The Westchester Buddhist Center
Courses in mediation and mindfulness based on the work of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche being offered inIrvington and Mt. Kisco

We are offering three new courses this week to start off the Buddhist lunar new year of the Fire Rooster! Each year this is a time for new beginnings, fresh starts and renewed enthusiasm. The rooster in the cosmology of the lunar calendar is considered to be a very organized, practical and grounded animal that likes to plan as well as take calculated risks. The rooster is the leader and commands the respect of others. This year is also a yin or female energy year, which means we will need to trust and follow our instincts and intuition. The quality of Yin Fire can be an extremely volatile combination, making for an unpredictable year. All of this means that now is a great time to pursue the Buddhist path of meditation!
Our first course is based upon the book The Myth of Freedom and the Way of Meditation. This is Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche’s most popular book. It is an accessible and lively presentation of the full range of the path, from suffering and the ego, beginning and advanced meditation guidance, to the bodhisattva path and tantra. Since this book is such a pillar of Rinpoche’s presentation of the dharma we are offering it both on Tuesday nights at the Aligned Center and on Sundays at the Eileen Fisher Headquarters. We are very happy that the Tuesday night course will be taught by John Baker, who is co-editor of the book, along with Gene Bobker. The Sunday mid-day course will be taught by Jane Kolleeny and Gene Bobker.

Our second course is the third course in our How to Meditate Series and is based upon the book Mindfulness in Action: Making Friends with Yourself through Meditation and Everyday Awareness by Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche. This course provides the opportunity for those new to the practice to receive a thorough introduction to both the framework of meditation as well as the full technique, and for both new and seasoned meditators to learn the subtleties and stages of progression in the practice. This course will be taught by Derek Kolleeny.
