From Pleasantville Mayor Peter Scherer:
Here’s this morning's report on the storm aftermath:
--------------------------------------------
P’VILLE DPW: Our team has cleared storm debris that does not engage live wires. Our crews cannot work around live wires until Con Edison clears the power risk. As reported below, Con Edison has assigned “watchers” to three locations where we have live-wire risks. Those people are there solely to monitor risk locations - and mostly do not have info on restoration.
--------------------------------------------
CON EDISON: We participated in today's municipal conference call with Con Edison. They report that 90% of outages will be restored by Tuesday at 11 pm, with the remaining 10% restored on Wednesday and Thursday. At present, they cannot promise when P’ville will be restored.
Plenty of challenges remain. As of this AM, there are about 58,000 Con Ed customers out of power — including nursing homes, water plants and schools. The latter are obviously the first priority for restoration. Several communities north of us have had more than 90% of residents without power. The Con Ed outage map is on-line at https://apps.coned.com/stormcenter/external/default.html.
Con Ed has requested crews from elsewhere in the region, and some are on the way now. Unfortunately, utilities in northeastern states requested 7,000 “mutual aid” repair workers, but only 600 are available - because few utilities in neighboring states can spare crews now.
As you can imagine, we are pressing hard - both to address our roadway hazards, and on behalf of P’ville residents who are out of power.
--------------------------------------------
STREET CLOSINGS + TRAFFIC SAFETY
CHURCH STREET: A large pine tree was uprooted and is lying on the power lines. A single lane is passable - but drivers do so at their own risk. A Con Ed “watcher” is on site 24/7.
LAKE STREET: The street is closed - with multiple hazards. Please DO NOT attempt to circumvent the barriers. Residents along Lake Street should consult with Con Ed “watchers,” who are on site 24/7, to assist with access to affected homes.
PIERCE DRIVE: A large tree has fallen across the road just below Charlemont, with live wires brought down. A Con Ed “watcher” is on site 24/7. The road is open on both sides of the affected area, accessible via Washington and Bedford.
TRAFFIC SIGNALS: Some traffic signals are out in our area (though none in the Village of P’ville). Those locations require extreme caution - and should function as "4-way stops” intersections.
--------------------------------------------
We have another conference call this afternoon with the Westchester County emergency team, and I’ll report as soon as we have any further info.
Peter
