Coyote Sightings Sunday In Port Chester

Police said that people should keep an eye on their pets, especially during the overnight hours.

PORT CHESTER, NY — Police in Port Chester are warning people that there were coyote sightings in the village Sunday. In a Facebook post, the police said the sightings were on Olivia Street as well as by Costco in the downtown area.

“Please, if spotted, stay away and call us,” the post said. “We have people trained to handle this as well as trappers available if necessary.”

Police also said for people to keep an eye on their pets, especially during the hours from dusk to dawn.

A forum on coyotes is scheduled from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 25 at the beginning of the Greenburgh Town Board meeting.

The session was set up after a coyote attacked residents in Hastings-on-Hudson and other part of the Town of Greenburgh.

Kevin Clarke, wildlife biologist for the Bureau of Wildlife of the state Department of Environmental Conservation will speak to the town board.

Greenburgh Supervisor Paul Feiner said that Clarke will take questions from attendees.

Frank Vincenti, founder of the Wild Dog Foundation, will also speak to the town board about his efforts working with communities to come up with non-lethal initiatives dealing with coyotes.

The meeting will be at Greenburgh Town Hall, 177 Hillside Ave. in the Town of Greenburgh.
