Uber Driver, Accused Of Assault, Faces Additional Charge

The alleged assault occurred June 8 and the Uber driver was initially arrested July 3.

RYE BROOK, NY — The Bronx Uber driver, previously charged with misdemeanor assault and forcible touching, now faces a first-degree sexual abuse charge, which is a felony. Police did not say why it took more than an additional week for the new charge for Iqbal Hussain, 26, of Gleason Avenue in the Bronx.

A statement Thursday from Uber said that Hussain is currently barred from working for the company or accessing the app, the Journal News reported.

Police said Hussain had attempted to subject the Rye Brook resident in his vehicle to sexual contact, and she was injured in an effort to defend herself.
