SETAUKET, NY – A 19-year-old woman crawled to safety after her Jeep crashed into the side of a building at St. George’s Golf & Country Club in Setauket, sparking a massive fire Tuesday evening.

According to Suffolk Police, Alyssa Chaikin, of Stony Brook, was traveling east on Sheep Pasture Road at about 5:40 p.m. when she lost control of her 2003 Jeep Liberty on the wet pavement. The Jeep struck a wooden guardrail, went through a chain-link fence and down an embankment before crashing into golf course building at 134 Lower Sheep Pasture Road, police said.

The Jeep and the building caught fire. The building, which housed a bathroom and was used for selling refreshments, was destroyed in the blaze.
