US Coast Guard Auxiliary Monthly Flotilla Meeting

The Port Jefferson Flotilla (22-06) of the Coast Guard Auxiliary is very active. Teaching Boating Safety Courses is our primary method of promoting safe boating to the public.  We also perform Vessel Safety Checks for boaters and conduct Patrols on the North Shore of Long Island. We are integrating with Station Eatons Neck; training one on one to help fill in empty billets. Activities include Watchstanding, facility maintenance, galley duty and computer support. Once you are an Auxiliarist you are eligible to participate in advanced training, such as Advanced Coastal Navigation, Seamanship, Communications, Weather, Search and Rescue and Patrols.

The US Coast Guard Auxiliary is an organization of 36,000 volunteer members nationwide. Since 9-11, the Coast Guard has greatly increased our scope of activities and responsibilities.  They expect a higher level of proficiency from us and our educational activities has greatly increased. In return, we are receiving training and the opportunity to work with the Coast Guard.

Our members are avid boaters who enjoy learning and teaching all aspects of boating.  Joining the Coast Guard Auxiliary requires a time commitment, but is a great way to do community service, learn more about boating, and serve our Country! Get It From the Source, the US Coast Guard Auxiliary! Contact us for more information at info@cgapj.org, or join us at our next meeting, held every second Wednesday at Setauket Yacht Club at 7:00 p.m.
