Irene Forces Bluefish Tourney to Reschedule

The planned bluefish tournament in the Long Island Sound will not be held this weekend as planned.

The big bluefishing competition planned for Saturday and Sunday has been officially postponed because of Hurricane Irene, according to Candy Caraftis at , an official weigh station for the contest.

Touted as the Greatest Bluefish Tournament on Earth, last year almost 4,000 people entered the contest for the chance to win a grand prize of $25,000 by hauling in the biggest bluefish.

The tournament's website alerted contestants to the cancellation Friday afternoon. The new dates for the tournament are Sept. 10 - 11. According to the website, registration will be extended to Sept. 9 at 5 p.m.
