LI Cop Helps Woman 'Struggling To Free Her Dog' From Burning Home
Officer Tyler Williams, only been on the job since 2021, will be remembered by the residents "for years to come," Suffolk police say.

PORT JEFFERSON STATION, NY — A Long Island family escaped from their burning home, losing all their pets, but a dog that a police officer helped pull to safety through a window on Wednesday morning.
A fire broke out at a home on Charm City Drive in Port Jefferson Station at about 9:30 a.m., and while the residents were able to escape to safety, "multiple pets were stuck inside the burning home," Suffolk police said.
When Officer Tyler Williams arrived at the home, a woman was "struggling to free her dog" and he jumped to the rescue, pulling the mixed-breed dog from a window, police said, adding, "unfortunately, the other pets in the home were unable to make it out and did not survive."

The residents were evaluated for medical treatment at the scene, according to police.
In a post on Facebook police brass credited Williams, an officer since 2021 who is stationed at the 6th Precinct in Selden, for "already making a difference in the lives of Suffolk residents."
