PORT JEFFERSON, NY — When times are tough, heroes emerge. We all know someone who's making a difference right now as we live through unprecedented times. Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these everyday heroes.

This submission comes from Eileen McCabe of Point Pleasant borough, New Jersey, who nominated Port Jefferson resident Dr. Cassandra Nicotra.

Why do you believe the nominee should be recognized or honored?
Working in the hospital, and she had to postpone her June wedding to 2021.

What’s one thing you want everyone to know about your hero?:
Lives on Long Island - a first-year from Florida. Very isolated, and she had to delay her wedding. She works around the clock as a doctor of psychiatric patients; she's dealing with an overwhelming caseload of patients suffering from COVID-19 mental anguish on top of mental health issues too.
