No Same-Sex Weddings Scheduled in Village Hall Yet
Sunday marks the first day that same-sex couples can legally apply for a marriage license.
On Sunday, will go into effect in New York State and for those looking to get married in Port Jefferson, the mayor and the court justices are all able perform ceremonies though no same-sex couples have made an appointment to be married in , according to officials.
If a couple is looking to tie the knot in the village they must apply for a marriage license through the town of Brookhaven first. After a 24-hour waiting period, they can come to Port Jefferson village hall and have the marriage ceremony performed.
To apply for a marriage license the Town of Brookhaven requires each individual to bring two forms of identification, of which one must be either a birth certificate, baptismal papers from a church, or naturalization papers. The other form of identification can be an official photo ID card such as a license, passport, green card, or military ID. Marriage licenses cost $40.

Any couple can be married at village court Monday through Friday at 5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday at 10 a.m. by appointment only. There is a $100 fee and couples must come with their licenses.
In a the Town of Brookhaven said that 31 couples are expected to apply for marriage licenses on Sunday.
