Port Jeff School Bond Defeated

Residents overwhelming voted against a proposed $29.9 million bond for school improvements Tuesday.

A $29.9 million bond referendum proposed by the Port Jefferson School District was handily defeated at the polls Tuesday.

The bond, which would have raised school taxes by $239 to $1,185 per year for district residents, was defeated by a margin of 1,355 to 374.

The school board has said the bond would have been used to address the infrastructural, educational and health and safety needs of the district.
