Port Jeff Student Honored For Achievement In Chemistry

PORT JEFFERSON, NY - From Port Jefferson School District: Earl L. Vandermeulen 11th -grade student Sinan Ates was among the best and the brightest high school chemistry students who were honored by the American Chemical Society. His honor for outstanding scholastic achievement was presented at a dinner and reception at Nassau Community College and recognized students from Nassau, Queens and Suffolk counties.

After a presentation by Dr. Gene Hall of Rutgers University on forensic analytical chemistry, Sinan was presented with a plaque by Dr. Joseph Serafin, chair of the American Chemical Society’s New York section, and Dr. Adejare Adeniran, chair of the American Chemical Society’s Long Island subsection.

For his accolades, Sinan had kind words to share about his high school teacher Michel Krivosta, noting that she is a great chemistry teacher; taking a subject and making it interesting so that the whole class pays full attention.

She, in turn, had this to say: “Sinan is one of those students who really grasps the concepts of what he learns in the classroom. He is very deserving of the honor.”
