🌱 Port Jefferson Daily: Change Of Overtime Rules For Farmers
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Port Jefferson.
Hey, people of Port Jefferson! It's me again, Debora Whitehead, your host of the Port Jefferson Daily.
First, today's weather:
A shower in the p.m.; breezy. High: 56, low: 42.
Here are the top stories today in Port Jefferson:
- U.S. Rep. Tom Suozzi has announced he will run for New York State Governor in 2022. The
announcement came during a virtual press conference on Nov. 29. Suozzi at the beginning of November said he was seriously considering running in the Democratic primaries in June of 2022 and wanted to meet with political consultants before making his final decision. (TBRNews) - Farmers across New York are worried about paying their workers overtime after a 40-hour work week. When overtime laws were established in the United States, farm workers were excluded. This was because the work was considered seasonal where some times of the year would be busier than others. Two years ago, New York passed a law making farm workers eligible for overtime after working 60 hours a week. (News12)
- Paint nights have really grown in popularity over the years and the best part is, you don't need it to be a specific occasion in order to have fun and be artistic. SaGhar Restaurant in Port Jefferson will be hosting a psychic and paint night on Monday, Dec. 20 at 6:30 p.m., so, if you're looking forward to a relaxing night and want to paint a rustic Christmas wreath on canvas, save the date! (Port Jeff Chamber of Commerce)
- PJSD's Leo Club and Environmental Club and advisers Brian Chalmers, Eva Grasso and Jonathan Maletta met for a cleanup at Port Jeff's East Beach. The event was sponsored by the Village of Port Jefferson and Coastal Steward Long Island's Adopt a Beach Program. (Twitter)
- Printing Solidarity: Tricontinental Graphics from Cuba is on view at the Zuccaire Gallery in Staller Center from Dec. 1-Feb. 26, 2022. It is an exhibition of global printed matter published in the 1960s-70s by the Organization of Solidarity with the Peoples of Africa, Asia, and Latin America (OSPAAAL), a cultural organization of artists and designers founded in 1966 in Havana.
