Port Jefferson Man Drowns in Long Island Sound
BREAKING: It happened Sunday afternoon, police say.

A 42-year-old Port Jefferson man drowned in the Long Island Sound after going for a swim Sunday afternoon, police said.
According to police, Mouhamed Souleiman was on a boat in the Sound with friends when he went for a swim south of the Stratford Shoal Light, a lighthouse about halfway between Port Jefferson and Bridgeport, Conn.,at about 12:10 p.m.
The current caused Souleiman to drift away from the boat, police said. Two of his friends who were on the vessel located Souleiman in the water, unresponsive, and pulled him onto the boat.

Souleiman received advanced life support care onboard the police boat by Port Jefferson EMS paramedics, who were transported out to a police boat in the Sound by the Port Jefferson Fire Department.
Souleiman was transported from the scene by Suffolk County Police Marine Bureau officers to Port Jefferson Marina. Port Jefferson EMS transported Souleiman to St. Charles Hospital in Port Jefferson, where he was pronounced dead.

The investigation is continuing. The death appears to be non-criminal in nature, police said.
