Port Jefferson Trio Earns Math Placement Honors

Of hundreds of students who took the Suffolk County Math Teachers' Association test, three Port Jefferson students earned placement honors.

Out of the hundreds of students who took the Suffolk County Math Teachers’ Association test, three Port Jefferson School District students earned placement honors.

Eighth grader Eric Chen placed third with a score of 29 out of 40 on the algebra exam; sophomore David Lawler tied for third with a score of 25 out of 40 on the precalculus exam and sophomore William Wu earned first place with a score of 30 out of 35 on the calculus exam.

“Thank you to all the math teachers who have worked with our participating students throughout the years in their math courses, and the administrators for supporting our programs,” said Earl L. Vandermeulen High School math teacher Dennis Christofor. Christofor added a special thanks to Port Jefferson Middle School Principal Dr. Robert Neidig for helping to coordinate and hosting the contest in the middle school.
