Port Jefferson's meritorious mathematicians
Seven students were honored at the Suffolk County Math Teachers' Association awards dinner.
From Port Jeff Schools: Seven Earl L. Vandermeulen High School students were honored at the Suffolk County Math Teachers’ Association awards dinner, held recently at the Watermill in Smithtown. The Mathletes team – Sinan Ates, Christine Iasso, Kyle Onghai, David Rotunno, Pina Than, Annalisa Welinder and William Wu – placed third in Division I.
Annalisa, a senior and team captain, was recognized as one of Suffolk County’s overall high scorers, an achievement she has maintained for all four years of high school. William Wu, a freshman, was honored for placing fourth overall in Suffolk County on the precalculus contest, which he took part in earlier in the year.
