Quiz Bowl Participants Earn Port Jeff Third Place

Earl L. Vandermeulen HS Junior Varsity Academic Team took home third-place after competing in the final tournament of the Regional Quiz Bowl

From Port Jefferson School District: The Earl L. Vandermeulen High School Junior Varsity Academic Team took home a third-place trophy after competing in the final tournament of the Regional Quiz Bowl at Plainview-Old Bethpage High School.

Competing against more than 50 of the top academic teams from Nassau and Suffolk counties, the students took part in the “Jeopardy”-like competition which covered a variety of academic disciplines and topics including art, history, poetry, literature and science.

The teamwork and motivation of junior Cameron Cohen, sophomore Kyle Onghai seniors Eric Tischer and Ben Zaltsman are to be commended.

“These students truly amaze me with the base of knowledge they possess,” teacher and coach Michel Krivosta said. “Their individual quick-thinking skills and collaboration are admirable.”
