Scotland, Keefe Lead Comsewogue to Opening Day Win Over Bellport
Warriors D holds back the Sharks to a scoreless first half.

Senior wide receiver Ken Scotland scored once on a 27-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Ryan Keefe and contributed three sacks as defense end in the Comsewogue Warriors 21-14 win over Bellport in a Division III football game played at in Port Jefferson Station on Saturday afternoon
The win was the first for new Warriors head coach Sean Tremblay who took over for Chuck Carron following Carron’s decision to step down after four years at the helm. Carron led the Warriors to a playoff appearance last year.
“In the first half everything went according to plan,” said Tremblay. “In the second half Bellport made the plays they had too but in the end I think that our kids were hungrier. Going in I honestly thought we could win. I also knew that we could sack them. In the end we sucked it up and made the plays we needed too.”

The highly touted passing combination of Keefe to Scotland hooked up only once but it was enough to give the Warriors a 21-0 lead in the second quarter. The Warriors broke out on top in the first quarter as junior Dan Infanzon (7 rushes for 91 yards) broke loose for a 20-yard running score. Then in the second quarter Keefe (18 carries for 91 yards) called his own number and carried the ball into the end zone from the 10 to make it 14-0.
In all the Warriors ran for a total 345 yards. The success of the Warriors running game led Tremblay to leave the passing game virtually unwrapped.

“We just didn’t need to pass the ball,” the coach said afterward.
Meanwhile, the Warriors defense had their way at the line of scrimmage. Although they forced one turnover–a Tom Hannel interception–they also came up with seven quarterback sacks, three by Scotland, two by senior James Mitsos and one each by junior Carlos Acosta and senior Mike Krisa.
The 21-0 Warriors lead turned out to be too much for the Clippers to overcome. Bellport added two rushing touchdowns in the third quarter but nothing after that as the Warriors held on for the 21-14 win.
“In the second half what we were doing is very fixable,” said Tremblay. “But it wasn’t fixable on the fly. Bellport played hard in the third quarter. Our defensive line did a great job the entire game.”
This Friday the Warriors travel to Eastport-South Manor (who won 48-28 against Rocky Point int heir last game) to take on the Sharks under the lights beginning at 7 p.m.
“It’s a short week but I think that this will be a great high school football game,” said Tremblay.
The Lady Warriors volleyball team wasn’t as fortunate. They took it on the chin as the Thunderbirds of Harborfields swept them three straight – 25-16, 25-20, 25-14 in their first game of the season Monday afternoon.
