Strengh for Life at Mather Hospital

New 8 week session of free exercise class for cancer patients/survivors to begin in April.

Strength for Life is a non-profit organization providing FREE exercise classes and wellness retreats to cancer patients/survivors on Long Island. Our immediate purpose is to help cancer patients feel their absolute best, to regain their ‘strength for life’, improve their daily functional activities, quality of life and self-esteem all to enhance the recovery process. The ultimate mission is to educate the medical community on the benefits of adding exercise to the treatment and recovery plan, and this very important mission is being facilitated by our partnership with Mather Hospital.

Strength for Life will be offering the 2nd session of 2015 classes at the Mather Hospital beginning April 15th, 2015. The classes are held once a week on Wednesdays at 6:30pm for an eight week cycle and will repeat quarterly and they are FREE. Programs are conducted by certified cancer exercise specialists in a group setting and simply require medical clearance. All else will be provided.

Space is limited and pre-registration is necessary. Please call 631-675-6513 or email strengthforife@optonline.net.

Testimonial of client served (via Great Non Profits) class

I found out about Strength for Life from my daughter’s mother-in-law who saw an article in a hospital bulletin about it. I had just finished chemo 4 months earlier for ovarian cancer and although I was feeling better, I still felt weak and fatigued. I joined the class in Nassau County. It was a small group, but we all immediately bonded. Jacqui was a wonderful leader who really knows what she’s doing. She customized the exercises for those of us who couldn’t do the traditional methods. Her encouraging attitude enabled all of us participate and benefit from the exercises. When I started, I could barely do the exercises, but after a couple of more classes, I felt stronger and was able to do them. More importantly, it was not only exercise, but it turned into a support group. Even though we all have a serious illness, at no time was it ever sad. It was an upbeat and supportive environment and with lots of humor throughout each session. I am so thankful for Jacqui and for the wonderful people in my class. Thanks also to Strength for Life for this program and for the exercise ball, bands, and mat. It hardly gives me an excuse not to continue to exercises at home.
