Are You Port Washington's BBQ Champion? Prove it at Karmacue Festival

The seventh annual Karmacue Festival will feature food, live music, arts and crafts and a competition to name Port Washington’s BBQ Champion.

All profits earned will go to benefitting the Community Chest of Port Washington.

The festival’s main event is the Cook-Off, where teams compete against each other to be named Port Washington’s BBQ champion. The winner will be chosen by independent judges and festival attendees.

Those who come to the festival can sample the BBQ food from the contest and vote for a “People’s Choice” award.

This year’s panel of judges will include Dan Pashman, a James Beard Award-nominated host of WNYC’s “Sporkful” podcast, Cooking Channel’s “You’re Eating It Wrong” and author of “Eat More Better.”

The event will take place on Irma Avenue (off of Main Street) on Sunday, May 31 from noon to 4 p.m.

Students from the iSchool and Port Washington local Chuck Idol will provide the music and Initial Stop and Peace/Love Art Studio will prove the arts and crafts.

Several Port Washington restaurants, vendors and organizations will sell food at the event, including:

• Ralph’s Ices
• Baked to Perfection
• Coffeed

• Nancy Sinoway Alterations
• Falconer Florist
• The Port Washington Chamber of Commerce
• Alper’s True Value Hardware— the event host will hold a grand reopening in conjunction with the festival.

The Community Chest of Port Washington researches and recognizes the needs of Port’s residents. They award grants each year to nonprofit organizations that provide a wide range of important services to its residents. The Community Chest also offers office space at below-market rates to nonprofit organizations.
