Seasonal & Holidays

Ash Wednesday Service

Christians in many denominations begin the 2015 Lenten season on February 18th

A traditional Ash Wednesday Mass with the Imposition of Ashes begins at 7:17pm on Wednesday, February 18th.  Why 7:17pm?  Why not 7:15 or 7:30pm?  The seemingly odd starting time helps us remember!

Ashes, in the Lutheran Christian tradition, are an outward sign of an inward commitment to adopt a Lenten discipline of spiritual practices.  Such voluntary practices may include prayer, fasting, Bible study, spiritual direction, additional worship, retreats, and good works.  Most of these spiritual practices are best experienced corporately because faith communities are often the places where God’s gracious presence in Jesus Christ comes to us.

All are invited to participate.  For additional information, please call the church office, 767-0603.

In 2015, the Lutheran family in Port celebrates its 100th Anniversary of faith, life and service.  The church family recently observed the first anniversary of its Paper & Personal Care Pantry.  Every month neighbors in need receive items such as laundry detergent, paper towels, tissue, baby  wipes, and toothpaste.  This ministry is generously supported by members, friends, Girl Scout Troop 429, Campus Life, and the Peter & Jeri DeJana Family Foundation.
