Fundraiser To Help Causes Roslyn Boy Killed In Crash Cared About
Ethan Falkowitz was killed by a drunken driver, police say. His family created a fundraiser to benefit some causes Ethan cared about.
ROSLYN, NY — A fundraiser was made to benefit the causes that Ethan Falkowitz cared about.
Falkowitz, 14, was one of two Roslyn Middle School students killed in a crash in Jericho on Wednesday night. Amandeep Singh, 34, of Roslyn, was arrested after Nassau police said he drove while drunk and crashed his 2019 Dodge Ram into a 2019 Alfa Romeo with four teenage boys inside.
"Ethan was killed this week when a drunk driver struck the car he was in," the seven organizers of a GoFundMe, including Gary and Lynne Falkowitz, wrote. "Ethan’s entire family is so appreciative of the outpouring of love and support and know many of you have asked how you can help. Ethan cared so much about helping others, so to continue his legacy, we’re starting a GoFundMe to benefit all the causes Ethan cared so much about."

Falkowitz's funeral was held Friday, Newsday reported. Hundreds of mourners gathered at Temple Sinai in Roslyn to listen to what the 14-year-old achieved.
Drew Hassenbein, 14, a fellow Roslyn Middle School student and tennis player, was also killed in the crash. The two other teens in the Alfa Romeo, ages 16 and 17, were taken to a hospital with internal injuries and were listed in stable condition, police said.
"The tragic passing of two of our Roslyn Middle School students is a tremendous loss for their families, friends, and our school community," the Roslyn School District wrote. "The district extends out deepest condolences and asks that everyone respect the families' right to grieve privately during this very difficult time."
Singh, who police said was driving southbound in the northbound lanes on North Broadway at 10:20 p.m. Wednesday, was arrested on charges of aggravated vehicular homicide, first-degree vehicular manslaughter, second-degree manslaughter, leaving the scene of an auto accident with a fatality, DWI and two counts of second-degree assault.
Singh was so drunk, he told officers he thought he was in New Jersey, police told Pix 11.
Officials told ABC 7 his blood alcohol level was 0.18 — more than twice the legal limit — at the time of the crash.
Hassenbein and Falkowitz were heading home from a restaurant after a tennis competition when they were hit by Singh, police said, Fox Sports reported. Both boys played on the Roslyn tennis team, and Hassenbein was a nationally ranked tennis player, ranked 38th in the United States for players under 14.
Jay Harris, who coached the boys in tennis, told NBC 4 New York the two were "amazing guys" and "best friends" who had been playing the sport since they were 5 years old. They joined the varsity team as eighth graders.
