Hicksville Gets Best of Lady Vikings
Girls varsity basketball team faces Long Beach next Thursday at Schreiber.

Port Washington's modest two-game winning streak was snapped by Hicksville on Friday night in a Conference AA-III girls' basketball game, 45-30.
The Lady Vikings (3-2 in conference play, 5-5 overall) led by a point after the opening quarter but were saddled with foul trouble and poor shooting the rest of the way. Michelle Filangieri had 19 points and 13 rebounds for the Lady Comets, who improved to 3-1 in the conference and 8-1 overall..
"They're a very good team and we hung in there as best we could with a few players in foul trouble," said Port Washington coach Dennis Trottier, who noted senior Emma Horowitz and eighth-grader Christina Leonard were limited due to fouls. "We came within a point or two in the third quarter but then they pulled away."
Horowitz and sophomore Hayley Kerr each hit three field goals and three free throws for nine points for the Lady Vikings, who are off until Long Beach visits next Thursday for a 6:15 p.m. start.
