Hit-and-Run Driver Returns to Scene After Striking Pedestrian in Manhasset: Police

The pedestrian was seriously injured from the Wednesday crash, police say.

A Great Neck man struck a pedestrian in Manhasset on Wednesday and was arrested after police say he fled and later returned to the scene.

According to authorities, Hossein Zamani, 77, was driving a 2005 Honda Odyssey van north on Community Drive, near Pond Hill Road, when he struck a 68-year-old man attempting to cross the street at 4:43 p.m.

Zamani left the scene of the accident, returned approximately one hour later and was placed under arrest, police say.

The pedestrian sustained internal injuries and was transported to a local hospital where he is listed in serious condition.

Zamani was charged with leaving the scene of an accident with serious physical injury and will be arraigned Thursday at First District Court in Hempstead.
