LIE Lanes Reopen After Jackknifed Tractor Trailer Causes Multi-Vehicle Crash

The blizzard-like conditions have caused a tractor trailer to jackknife on the Long Island Expressway, causing multiple other accidents Thursday morning, police say.

According to authorities, the tractor trailer jackknifed while traveling westbound at 8:31 a.m near Roslyn. Police say the LIE was closed for about two hours at westbound Exit 36 due to the tractor trailer incident that involves multiple other vehicles. The LIE lanes have been reopened as of 12:30 p.m.
Injuries are unknown at this time.

The blizzard warning is in effect in Nassau County until 6 p.m. Residents could see up to 18 inches of snow and wind gusts up to 40 mph that will cause blowing and drifting snow. Power outages will also be possible.
"Do not travel," the NWS says. "If you must travel, have a winter survival kit with you. If you get stranded, stay with your vehicle."
