Lady Vikings Remain Perfect With Win Over NHP
Girls varsity lacrosse uses early 8-0 lead to defeat New Hyde Park on the road.
With their opponent's starting goalie on the sidelines from the beginning of the game, it seemed as if the girls varsity lacrosse meeting between the Schreiber Lady Vikings and the New Hyde Park Gladiators was going to be a rout. And the Lady Vikings didn't disappoint. The team put eight goals on the board before five minutes had passed in the contest.
With help from those eight early goals, the Lady Vikings came out on top at New Hyde Park Memorial High School on Wednesday, 17-9.
After that eighth goal New Hyde Park's starting goalie, senior Kimberly Brooks, who injured her leg in pre-game warmups, returned to the field.

"I think when she saw that we got on an 8-0 run, she decided she was going to try to suck it up and play," Port Washington coach Raquel Piraino said. "And I think she did a good job considering she was hurt."
Although the final score looked lopsided, it was even at nine goals a piece after Brooks entered to the game. Piraino said she wasn't ecstatic about her team's play, and rightly so, considering that without those eight early goals scored off New Hyde Park's backup goalie, the game would have been tied and destined for overtime.

"It wasn't one of our best performances, but in the end we pulled it out and we're 8-0," Piraino said. "We're happy, but the next two games that we have are very important. We need 50 minutes of quality lacrosse."
One player who continues to perform for Port Washington was their leading scorer on the afternoon, junior Alexa Froccaro, who had seven of the team's 17 goals.
"Alexa's one of our go-to players and when she is on, there probably is not a goalie that can stop her," Piraino said.
Froccaro equated her success to her team's ability to hold onto the ball in the offensive zone. "The team did a really great job possessing the ball," Froccaro said. "And we capitalized off of that."
The Lady Vikings will look to remain undefeated this Friday at Division High School in Levittown in a non-conference game scheduled for 5 p.m.
